A Non-Governmental Organization, Beyond Community Care Foundation, (BCCF) said it’s partnering Mass Communication Department of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka in training students to attain media excellence.

This was made known on Thursday during a joint press briefing with journalists at the Prof Chinyere Stella Okunna Auditorium, Philip Uba Mass communication complex, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State.

The group said the partnership was informed by the need to expose students to the practical aspect of their course, bring them closer to the industry they will face after graduation as well as meet role models who have made waves in media industry. 

The partnership championed by the organization’s founder and traditional ruler elect of Amanuke Kingdom, Anambra State, Chief Dennis Ezebuilo, would take off with the maiden ‘Town and Gown Series,’ an event scheduled for August 19 by the department.

It would also seek to expose students to emerging opportunities in communication industry.

Addressing journalists, BCCF Director, Onuora Aninwobodo said the organisation’s agenda is to create enabling grounds for well groomed graduates in a competitive economy as well as lifting humanity from poverty and hopelessness.

While Aninwobodo expressed discontentment at the level of out of school children in the country, he said the organisation had lifted over 500 Almajiris in the Northern part of the country and that its concern is lifting children who are deprived because of hardship in the country.

He also said, ” Beyond Community Foundation is determined to providing access to health coverage for the sick aged and rural poor in various communities across the country.”

He said the foundation’s agenda is in line with the department’s idea of bringing accomplished media personalities from the field to rob minds with the students and to expose them to requisite skills needed to excel in the field of practice after graduation.

Meanwhile, the Head of Department, Mass Communication Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Prof Chinwe Uzochukwu, said Town and Gown Series being organized by the department in collaboration with the Beyond Community care foundation would serve as unique opportunity to get communication practitioners of various hues to come and interact with students on practical issues of the industry.

While Prof Uzochukwu said the theme of the event, ” Exploring Emerging Opportunity in Media and Communication ” would address the challenges of the profession with regard to the emerging trends, She noted that eminent practitioners have been lined up to impact on the students of the department.

Contributing, Director of Unizik FM, Prof Stella Okunna, lauded the partnership and the maiden Town and Gown event stating that it will help build students for excellence in media practice.
