Awka South Mayor tasks journalists on professionalism, warns against intrusion

The Chairman of Awka South Local Government Area, Anambra State, Prince Chinedu Okafor, has emphasized the need to safeguard journalism from intrusion and unwarranted interference.

He made the call during a courtesy visit by the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Anambra State Chapter, led by Chairperson, Comrade Tochukwu Ifejika.

Prince Okafor expressed concern that the proliferation of unverified news on social media by unqualified individuals could undermine the integrity of journalism.

He urged journalists to maintain professionalism and uphold the standards of their noble profession.

Earlier, Comrade Ifejika briefed the chairman on NAWOJ’s LGA activities, including the monitoring and upgrading of public health centers to improve healthcare access for citizens. She also proposed a partnership between NAWOJ and the council to educate the public about the current administration’s initiatives.

In response, Prince Okafor pledged the council’s support for NAWOJ and announced plans to collaborate with the association and his media team to amplify the good works of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration. He cited the recent visit of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as evidence of the governor’s impactful leadership.

The chairman encouraged NAWOJ to proactively disseminate information showcasing the transformation of Anambra State into a livable and conducive environment.

In a vote of thanks, Monic Okechukwu, General Manager of Kpakpando FM, appreciated the chairman’s assurance of support and partnership with NAWOJ for their upcoming event, praising his leadership and efforts in Awka South LGA.
