AWKA NORTH’S EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT UNDER THE MAYORSHIP OF HON.THANKGOD CHIBUIKE ANAGO IN PERSPECTIVE

Hon. ThankGod Chibuike Anago as a quality and affordable education enthusiast and intentional leader with a workable template on emerging as the Mayor of Awka North Local Government Area demonstrated uncommon zeal and purpose-driven commitment in bringing positive multi-dimensional transformations within the educational sector of the council area.

Understanding the progressive role that free and quality education play in transforming societies especially for an agrarian council area like Awka North LGA, where many families find sending their children and wards to schools less appealing, Hon Anago’s administration has and is still investing heavily to see that education becomes very attractive to people in the council area. A laudable initiative aimed at not just domesticating but also complementing the tuition-free education policy of the Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo CFR for schools in Awka North Local Government Area.

In furtherance of the education-friendly disposition of his administration, Hon. Anago has carried out large-scale distribution of free schooling support materials to both staff and pupils across schools in the ten communities in the council area. These schooling materials included exercise books, pencils, biros, erazers, sharpeners, rulers, and whiteboards, among others.

Schools whose staff and pupils benefited from the Hon.ThankGod Chibuike Anago led-Awka North Local Government Administration’s schooling support programme are; Egede Primary School, Achalla; Central School, Achalla; Community Primary School, Achalla, Udoka Primary School, Achalla; Eziogbo Primary School, Amansea; Obuno Primary School, Ebenebe; Uwana Primary School, Ebenebe; Irunese Primary School, Ebenebe; Community Primary School, Ugbenu; Ugbenu-Ime Primary School, Ugbenu; Agueke Primary School, Ugbenu as well as Umuogbuefi Primary School, Ebenebe.

The staff and pupils of Community Primary School, Isuaniocha; Community Primary School, Mgbakwu; Unity Primary School, Mgbakwu; Abogu Primary School, Mgbakwu, Central School, Mgbakwu; as well as Igwebudu Primary School, Urum also benefited.

Others were Union Primary School, Amanuke; Central Primary School, Amanuke; Community Primary School, Urum; Waterside primary school Awba-Ofemili; Progressive Primary School, Awba-Ofemili; Central Primary School Awba-Ofemili, and also Community Primary School Awba Ofemili.

These interventions have gone a long way in taking off the burden of financial pressure from many parents and guardians of pupils attending schools in Awka North LGA while at the same time making education more appealing to parents and guardians and to these pupils who are our leaders of tomorrow.

Hon. Anago aside, distributing free schooling support items to pupils and teachers in schools in the Awka North LGA, has also undertaken a great upgrade of facilities in primary schools in Awka North.

Among the schools have received the transformative touch of Hon. Anago’s administration included Abogu Primary School, where his administration renovated a block of eight (8) classrooms and another block of five (5) classrooms with modern toilet facilities and well-reticulated pipe-borne water.

Also, at Central School, his administration has also renovated a block of nine (9) classrooms and another block of six (6) classrooms with modern toilet facilities and well-reticulated pipe-borne.

While at Unity Primary School, his administration facilitated the renovation of a block of five (5) classrooms, among others.

Furthermore, Hon. Anago has facilitated the complete fencing of Unity Primary School, and the renovation of another block of six(6) classrooms at Central Primary School through the Public Private Community Partnership (PPCP) model of Governor Soludo’s administration.

Hon. Anago’s administration has rolled out a comprehensive masterplan for education in Awka North that will see that every child of schooling age has access to free and quality basic education in the council as well as to ensure that schools in the council area are in proper condition.

Hon. Anago’s administration has also gone another step further in ensuring that numerous indigenes of the council area gain admission in different tertiary institutions, and also established a scholarship program for secondary and university students with over one hundred (100) students under this scheme.

Again, the recent teachers’ recruitment exercise of Governor Soludo’s administration was a success story for ndi Awka North as qualified indigenes from the council area were gainfully employed through the tireless efforts of Hon. ThankGod Chibuike Anago, who ensured that ndi Awka North are not short-changed during the process.

Today, in Awka North LGA education has become very attractive and a thing of pride to people of the council area as a result of the priority attention, Hon. ThankGod Chibuike Anago’s administration has given to the development of education in the council area.
