Award winning Author, Others Mentor Students on career choice

Anambra state born award winning and International Best Selling Author, Paul Chika Emekwulu, alongside other professionals has advised students to set their minds on choosing befitting careers that will prepare them to be useful members of the society.

The advice came at the 2021 academic year career convention themed, “Career Exploration for Informed Career Decision in Self Reliance. The event held at the Holy Child Secondary School, Isuofia in Aguata, Anambra state.

Speaking at the event, renowned author, Paul Chika Emekwulu charged the students to build their lifestyle around their respective career choices. He appealed them to shun get quick rich syndrome but be committed to their education to be useful to themselves and the society.

Emekwulu who has written several books including The ‘GPS’ of the Holy Bible,  Encountering Jesus, the Altar boy, Getting to know Fibonacci Numbers, to mention but a few, was at the HCSS’s annual event as part of his speaking engagement in motivating new generation of youths.

Emekwulu advised students to embrace English language learning. He said mastery of the language is relevant in every career of their choice and must lend their ear to their English teacher for accurate learning.

Earlier in his keynote, the manager of the Holy Child Secondary School, Isuofia, Fr. Julian Anaeto, said that the career convention is an annual programme arranged by the school to drill, tutor and mentor the students of the school on the steps that would lead them to an informed career decision and help them evade the challenges resulting from wrong career decision.

Fr. Anaeto, represented at the event by the assistant manager of the school, Fr. Emmanuel Nwafor, blamed the poor attention paid by political leaders in the country for the crisis bedeviling the nation, urging governments to wake up from slumber and perform their responsibilities.

He assured that the event will help open career insights for students who he said are the future of the society and who are at the receiving end of bad leadership and uninformed decision of the political class.

“Many young people have chosen a career they have continued to regret and many students have opted to study for a course that neither gives them self satisfaction, self fulfilments nor self reliance.”

He urged the students to do well to let their career tilt towards solving the problem of humanity and making the world a better place.

Speaking on the theme of the convention, Nwankwo C. N, urged the students to ask themselves the essential questions of good career decisions. She said teenagers in secondary schools need to learn how to make informed decision to put themselves on the right track to success.

She blamed lack of determination, ignorance of the word of work, parental pressure, as the key reasons why students make wrong career choice in life. She also attributed penchants for lucrative career, considering one’s career more important and parent’s wish as the costly mistakes that lead to poor career decision.

Nwankwo, the school Guidance and Councillor, led the students on the roads to success, reminding them the importance of having a goal in ones life. She urged them to identify their talents, nurture is and acquire skills to cope and be relevant in life after school.

Orient Daily reports that the students were drilled on careers in Arts and Physio Therapy by Prince Nelson Obi Igboamazu and Uchenna Ochuba, while Mrs. Jidere Uzoamaka tutored them on effective study for successful studentship.
