The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed the tragic loss of nine lives and injuries to 21 others in a road accident in Dankama, Kaita Local Government Area, Katsina State. The Sector Commander, Aliyu Ma’aji, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday through the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Shamsudeen Babajo. The incident occurred when a trailer carrying both cows and human passengers detached from its main body and toppled onto a pavement. According to Ma’aji, the accident happened as the trailer driver attempted to avoid crushing a woman who had fallen off the top of a heavily overloaded Golf car transporting beans. In the process, the driver lost control, leading to the detachment and subsequent crash. The injured passengers were taken to the Primary Healthcare Center in Kaita for initial treatment, with some later transferred to Katsina General Hospital and the Federal Teaching Hospital due to the severity of their injuries. Ma’aji warned drivers against the dangerous practice of transporting animals alongside passengers and urged passengers to speak out against overloading and reckless driving to help prevent future accidents.
