PRESS RELEASE

  1. The recent attack by terrorists on the Nigerian Defence Academy, which claimed the lives of two officers and the abduction of one is the height of failure by President Muhammadu Buhari led APC.
  2. Sadly, Nigerians continue to suffer on account of the culture of mediocrity and irresponsibility, which have characterized the APC government since the assumption of office over six years ago.
  3. These terrorists that have been labelled bandits to suit the government’s false narrative are getting bolder by the day especially at a time when the Taliban in Afghanistan have been able to prove that non-state actors can oust a legitimate government lacking the willpower to resist criminality in the guise of insurgency, terrorism and banditry.
  4. This government is treading on a dangerous route with its failed policy of exclusion, nepotism and injustice that have seen activities of non-violent groups in some parts of the country crushed with brute force while violent criminals responsible for unprecedented destruction of lives and property in other parts of the country pampered and rewarded with amnesty.
  5. There cannot be peace in the absence of justice, equity and fairness and until President Muhammadu Buhari led APC can come to this realization, all kinetic and non-kinetic approaches in solving these unabating challenges of insecurity will be counter-productive.
  6. The situation has now escalated to the point that Nigerians are beginning to question the culpability of the ruling class who are quick to forget that this monster they have deliberately allowed to fester based on ethnoreligious considerations will one day consume everyone including them and their families if nothing is done urgently and patriotically to halt it.
  7. If the APC government is serious about fighting insecurity, it should first discontinue the unhealthy policy of granting amnesty to terrorists, commence prosecution of arrested terrorists and their financiers, apply the same brute force used in crushing the IPOB and Yoruba nation agitators on these mindless terrorists and immediately kick-start the process of restructuring the country with a decentralized policing system as one of its major components.
  8. We call for the immediate resignation of President Muhammadu Buhari should he fail to implement the above recommendations or remain obstinate in doing anything progressive to bring this constant national disaster and embarrassment to an end.
  9. We commiserate with the families of the officers who have lost their lives in this senseless attack and call on the Military authority to do everything necessary to rescue the abducted officer if he is yet alive.
  10. The Military should also ensure that the sanctity of the institution is upheld by embarking on a genuine investigation into the proximate and remote causes of this attack to avoid future occurrence as the Military remain the only strategic symbol of authority still holding the country together and cannot afford to be seen as weak or without capacity.
