ASATU-Youth Association adopts constitution

The Youth Wing of the Anambra State Association of Town Unions (ASATU), has concluded all three reading sessions of its constitution and adopted it as a working document.

ASATU-Youth completed and adopted the constitution review with the final reading process at its general meeting held at the ASATU Secretariat, Government House, Awka.

Mr Onyedika Mbanugo, the youth leader of Umudioka, moved the motion for adoption of the constitution while Chief Nnalue Stephen of Enugu-Otu, Aguleri, seconded the motion.

Mr Francis Chibuko, the Chairman of the Constitution Amendment Committee, said the new constitution which was a product of several months of consultations, reviews and meetings, would be the new guide that would steer ASATU-Youth towards greater height.

Chibuko appreciated the Asatu Youth President General (PG) and his executive for trusting him and his team with such a huge task and also thanked the youth leaders, lady organizers and entire youths and every other person who was instrumental towards achieving the feat.

The amended constitution was supported by youth leaders from 179 communities of Anambra including lady organisers and Legal Advisers who were in attendance.

On his part, Mr Ken Okoli, the National President of the Association, who had promised to deliver an acceptable and all inclusive constitution, thanked the committee for their dedication.

Okoli said the ASATU-Youth would give every youth of Anambra, both indigenes and non-indigenes at home and in diaspora, a sense of belonging.

He further assured that the youth would serve as a catalyst to Anambra government in delivering good governance to the grassroots for a livable and prosperous homeland.

Okoli extended his appreciation to all other persons who have in one way or the other contributed to the achievement of the constitution amendment which he described as a landmark in his administration.

“The current ASATU-Youth is ready to take over the fourth pillar of the Solution Agenda.

“ASATU-Youth is a global model for youth development with a community-based structure that promotes peace, progress and security of Anambra State.

“With the new constitution, ASATU-Youth is now structured to add a great value to the governance of the state.

“The next stage is to commence training of its members which covers some critical areas like leadership, team-building, influencing skills, problem solving and decision-making,” he said.

Okoli said he had met with the Area Manager of the Industrial Training Fund to make arrangements for the leadership training course.
