The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Anambra State has dropped five serving mayors, including Onitsha South’s Emeka Orji, from its list of candidates for the upcoming local government elections.

The affected mayors, considered close allies of Governor Charles Soludo, had previously served two terms as Transition Committee Chairmen before becoming elected mayors under APGA.

The party has replaced them with new candidates, citing the need for fresh energy and new ideas in local government administration.

APGA’s National Publicity Secretary, Mazi Ejimofor Opara, stated that the decision wasn’t punitive, but rather an opportunity for others to serve.
