Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Dr Law Mefor, on Friday, explained that governor Chukwuma Soludo’s recently inaugurated security outfit, Operation Udo Ga-Chi was only targeted at getting rid of criminals from the forests for safety and prosperous homeland.

Mefor, who disclosed this while welcoming the Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra State Council, Dr Odogwu Emeka Odogwu and other newly elected officers in his office, dismissed the allegations that the security outfit was killing opposition political party members and innocent citizens.

According to him, Udo Ga-Chi comprising Agunachemba (rebranded AGV), Army, Airforce, Police and others, have within one month recorded several success stories by taming violence crimes, including demolition of criminal hideouts, arrest of kidnappers, among others.

He, therefore, urged those with legitimate businesses to shun hiding in the bushes for any reason while reiterating the call on criminals to leave Anambra forests and repent or face the wrath of law because according to him, the State would no longer permit any kind of criminalities.

The commissioner further sought cooperation of community leaders, religious institutions, the media, civil society organisations and other citizenry to ensure that Anambra State is free of violent crimes by providing necessary information, suggestions and recommendations for their successful operation.

“Those occupying our bushes should come out immediately. There is no normal person who lives in the forests. We are appealing to ndị Anambra to cooperates with Agunachemba and Udo Ga-Chi to secure our state. Their mandate is very clear. They are here to eradicate violence crimes.

The landlords and landladies should know their tenants by profiling and reporting suspicious ones among them. Community leaders, families, neighbours and others should be able to identify the criminals around them and report to appropriate quarter,” he added.

The commissioner further praised journalists on what he described as notable improvements and fair reportage of governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration achievements in office and urged them to sustain the tempo.

Mefor, while congratulating Dr Odogwu on his reelection at recently concluded NUJ Anambra State Triennial Conference, reassured the Council that the administration was planning a project tour and training of journalists on safety reportage and other development communication etiquettes.
