The Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Anambra State, Mrs. Chinyere Esther Onyekesi, has called on the Church to intensify enlightenment on godly family ethics, saying that societal transformation must begin from the home.

Mrs. Onyekesi made the call when the Executive of the Catholic Women Organization (CWO) St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Awka, paid her a courtesy visit in her office in Awka.

The delegation, led by the CWO President, Lady Ngozi Offodile, was at the Ministry to congratulate the Commissioner on her appointment and to present her with an award of honour. The group also offered prayers for God’s guidance and wisdom throughout her tenure.

In her response, the Commissioner expressed gratitude to the women for the visit and the recognition. She commended the Catholic Women Organization for its consistent role in promoting family values and supporting government initiatives on women and social welfare.

She urged faith-based organizations to leverage platforms such as the August meeting to educate women and mothers, with special focus on newly married couples.

“The desired change in society begins from the home, extends to the Church, the Community, and ultimately the State at large,” Mrs. Onyekesi said. “The Church has a vital role to play in ensuring that marriage rites and processes are properly observed so that we can build strong, godly families that will produce responsible citizens.”

Lady Offodile also formally invited the Commissioner to the CWO St. Patrick’s Catholic Church August meeting scheduled to hold on the 13th and 14th of August, 2026.

The visit, according to the Ministry, reinforces the ongoing collaboration between the Ministry of Women and Social Welfare and faith-based organizations in promoting family values, moral uprightness, and social welfare across Anambra State.
