Anambra Women Affairs Commissioner Urges United Action Against Domestic Violence, Child Abuse

The Anambra State Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Mrs. Chinyere Esther Onyekesi, has called for stronger collaboration among government, faith-based organizations, traditional institutions and community leaders to combat domestic violence, child abuse and human trafficking in the state.
Mrs. Onyekesi made the call during visits to St. John’s Anglican Church, Nise; St. Patrick Cathedral Parish, Awka; and St. Theresa Catholic Church, Obosi, as part of activities marking the ongoing August Meeting.
Speaking at the various churches, the Commissioner joined women and members of the congregations to celebrate the annual August Meeting. She underscored the importance of unity, family values, women’s empowerment and the protection of children and vulnerable persons in society.
She commended the women for their contributions to the development of families, communities and Anambra State at large, and urged them to sustain initiatives that promote economic empowerment, peaceful homes and community development.
The Commissioner reiterated the commitment of the Ministry of Women and Social Welfare to working closely with churches and other stakeholders to address issues affecting women, children and vulnerable groups.
“Protecting families and vulnerable members of society requires collective responsibility. We must all come together to fig6ht domestic violence, child abuse, trafficking and other forms of violence against women and children,” Mrs. Onyekesi said.
She also used the opportunity to interact with the women, share messages of hope and empowerment, and strengthen the relationship between the Ministry and faith-based communities across the state.
Mrs. Onyekesi expressed appreciation to the leadership and members of the three churches for their warm reception and for their continued commitment to the welfare and advancement of women, children and families.
The August Meeting is an annual gathering of women, used across Igbo communities to discuss welfare, development and issues affecting women, families and society.
