Anambra State Governor Prof Charles Soludo has dismissed rumours of defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC) after President Tinubu’s visit on Thursday, May 1, affirming that Anambra will continue its development under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

Speaking on Sunday, May 4, at a Thanksgiving Mass for APGA National Chairman Barr. Sylvester Ezeokenwa at St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church, Fegge, Onitsha, Soludo reiterated his commitment to APGA.

He stated, “Even after my tenure, another progressive leader will take over under the APGA platform—and nothing else. APGA is the first officially registered progressive political party in Nigeria since 2002, and it remains our own.”

Soludo noted APGA’s achievements, saying, “Under APGA, Anambra has experienced unprecedented development. From Peter Obi to Willie Obiano, and now under my leadership, we have made measurable progress. Within just three years of our administration, the results are visible for all to see.”

Ezeokenwa, emotional during the event, thanked Soludo for supporting him through a legal battle over APGA’s leadership, resolved by a Supreme Court ruling on November 27, 2024. “I remain eternally grateful to Governor Charles Soludo, who stood by me through thick and thin,” he said, also acknowledging spiritual support from Bishop Jonas Benson and Rev Fr Ezeoke.

Chief Ebuka Onunkwo, an APGA aspirant for the Anambra South Senatorial bye-election, praised the Supreme Court’s decision, stating, “This landmark decision is a testament to the judiciary’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring justice is served.”
