The Anambra state government has denied the rumour on the re-opening of schools in Anambra State next week.
Commissioner for Basic Education Professor Kate Omenugha said Anambra State government directed teachers to resume work in order to put all necessary structures and arrangements to ensure full implementation of all government directives regarding the fight against Covid – 19 pandemic.
She said the reports from Heads of Schools, Principals and Teachers on what is on ground in their respective schools and other relevant structures put in place to forestall possible spread of Corona virus, could help government decide when full academic session will commence.
Professor Omenugha however urged parents and guardians to encourage their children and wards to join the on Air Teaching Programme on ABS platforms.
Meanwhile, the Executive Secretary of Anambra State Post Primary Schools Service Commission Mrs Josephine Onuorah said with all the teething problems faced by various schools in the State to contain COVID-19 pandemic, it is too early to resume academic session.
The State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers Comrade Nonye Chibueze said much needs to be done to help teachers handle the students when they eventually return.
