Anambra State Eighth Assembly Marks Two Years In Office Today

As the Anambra State Eighth Assembly marks two years in office, the Speaker, Right Honourable Somtochukwu Udeze, has announced that the Assembly has successfully passed thirty-one bills into law, and described the legislative agenda as people-oriented; aimed at enacting laws that create meaningful impact across the state.

Speaking to journalists in Awka, the Speaker said the assembly also passed seventy-two resolutions through motions and committee reports, and highlighted landmark legislations such as the Local Government Administration Law and the Homeland Security Law.

Acknowledging some challenges within the assembly, including the need for better office space for staff, Speaker Udeze noted that Governor Chukwuma Soludo has promised to address the issue, adding that discussions are still ongoing to ensure full legislative autonomy for the assembly.

Speaking on constituency engagement, the Speaker emphasized that lawmakers have maintained strong ties with their constituents through town hall meetings, skill acquisition programs and health insurance initiatives, and expressed confidence that by the end of their tenure, the assembly’s achievements in lawmaking, representation and legislative reforms would make the state proud.
