Anambra: Soccer is World Most Unifying Sport, Curbs Youth Restiveness – Council Chairman

The chairman, Caretaker Committee, Dunukofia Local Government Area, Anambra State, Hon. Onyemobi Augustine Chukwunonyelum hinted that soccer is the world’s most uniting sport that also curbs youth restiveness and other criminal activities.

Giving the hint while expressing satisfaction with the week-long activities lined up in celebration of the Dunukofia Jubilee event, he stated that with soccer, the youths in the local Government have been tamed and kept busy, that one hardly hear of violence since the commencement of soccer tournament amongst the youths of the six communities that make up the Local Government Area.

“Since the commencement of this soccer in Dunukofia Local Government Area, as part of the activities marking the silver jubilee celebration of the Local Government Area, the youths have been mostly peaceful. We cherish our homogeneity. We are brothers, Dunukofia is the only local Government that is a community of its own.

“The six communities are, Ifitedunu, Ukpo, Umunnachi, Umudioka, Nawgu and Ukwulu. In this soccer tournament to mark the celebration, every community that participated is a winner because we have consolation prizes for them.

The grand finale and plux celebration which was held at Ukpo, council headquarters, was a role call of who is who in the area, with Chief Arthur Eze, a billionaire business magnate, being the centre of attraction.

Scores were honoured with awards by the council chairman for their roles towards the development of the area to serve as motivator to do more and for others to emulate that there is joy and reward for service.

Among those honoured was a philanthropist who built houses for widows and empowered the down trodden, Chief Vincent Udobi called “Onwa Ifitedunu” by his admirers.

Chief Arthur Eze, also called “Ozoigbondu,” by his admirers, traced the history of the council area to when it was under Njikoka local Government Area adding that he brought the incumbent council chairman, Hon. Chukwunonyelum, from Nawgu, to Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, to be made the council chairman, for rapid infrastructural development of Nawgu and the entire communities of the local Government Area.
