The Anambra State Police Command has intensified surveillance and intelligence-gathering efforts to apprehend members of a suspected criminal gang following the rescue of a 16-year-old boy, Favour Ayogu, who was allegedly abducted in Igboeze South Local Government Area of Enugu State and later abandoned in Onitsha.
The command disclosed this in a statement issued by its Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, on Sept. 14, noting that the teenager was rescued during an improved joint security operation conducted on the evening of Sept. 13.
According to the statement, a joint patrol team stationed at Ekene Junction along Oguta Road, Onitsha, intercepted the victim after unidentified persons reportedly dropped him from a black Toyota Highlander SUV near the security checkpoint.
The timely intervention of the security personnel led to the safe rescue of the teenager and prevented him from being exposed to further danger. Following the incident, the command said it had intensified surveillance and other intelligence-led operations aimed at identifying, tracking and arresting the persons suspected to be behind the alleged abduction.
The police appealed to members of the public, particularly residents of Igboeze South and Ibagwa-Aka in Enugu State, who may have useful information about the boy or his family, to contact the nearest police station or the Anambra State Police Command.
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, commended the joint patrol team for its vigilance, professionalism and prompt response, while directing personnel to sustain intelligence-led patrols, strategic checkpoints and coordinated security operations across the state.
The command also reassured residents and visitors of its continued commitment to protecting lives and property, responding promptly to distress situations and ensuring that criminal elements are denied safe havens within Anambra State.
