Anambra Police arrest 135 Cultists, others

The State Police Command through its Special Anti-Cultism Squad has arrested  one hundred and thirty five Suspected cultist from various parts of the State .

According to a statement endorsed by the State Police Public Relations Officer Mr Haruna Mohammed  the unit  equally recovered some exhibits from the raids including four machetes, some quantities of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, two Axes two daggers and, native charms of different categories.

The statement said that out of the one hundred and thirty five  suspects arrested so far,Forty One have confessed and charged to Court , sixty one were screened and released while Forty four others are under investigation.

It stated that following intelligence report, Police detectives attached to Central Police Station Onitsha arrested suspects who allegedly

lured one thirty five year old Gold Gift    into a hotel and killed her after having unlawful carnal knowledge with the victim ,while, preliminary investigation further revealed that the victim was later taken by the hotel staff and dumped at BSMG roundabout Onitsha without informing the Police.

The statement said consequently, three of the hotel staff including the manager one Mr Ekene Gabriel  of Onitsha, the Bar man one Tom Bishop Emmanuel and the gate man one Arume Ifeanyi Godwin  were also arrested and the case  was under investigation after which suspects would be charged to court for prosecution.

In another development, the statement disclosed that the Command equally received a complaint that three unknown men scaled the fence of Christ Holy Church located at Number Thirty Orumba Street Okpoko and forcefully entered the room of the Assistant Pastor ,one Justice Nonso Njigbo and inflicted a deep machete cut on his fore head, shot and injure him on the left thigh and made away with  phones of the occupants.

It explained that Police detectives attached to Okpoko Division visited the scene and rushed the victim to St.Charles Boromeo hospital were he was confirmed dead on arrival and the corpse had been deposited in the same hospital morgue for autopsy while effort is being intensified to apprehend the assailants and bring them to Justice.

The Command implores the public to report any suspicious persons or movements to the nearest Police Station or call  emergency number 07039194332 for prompt response.
