Anambra monarchs rubbish suspension by Gov. Obiano

The Anambra traditional rulers sanctioned by Governor Willie Obiano have dismissed their suspension.

Obiano’s decision followed their initial trip to the nation’s capital where they sought to meet President Muhammadu Buhari.

They were led by business mogul, Arthur Eze.

The Governor complained to the presidency that the trip was planned without his knowledge.

On Thursday, the monarchs and Arthur Eze, returned to the State House, Abuja.

But Buhari, in an apparent deference to Obiano, did not meet the visitors.

Instead, the president dispatched his Chief of Staff, Ibrahim Gambari, to receive them.

On the trip were Eze Nkeli Nzekwe, Igwe Chuba Mbakwe, Igwe Chijioke Nwankwo, Igwe Anthony Onwekwelu, Igwe Chukwuma Bobo Orji, among others.

After the presidential villa parley, the rulers suspended for one year insisted that they did nothing wrong.

Igwe Nwankwo said it was “an abuse of power and high handedness by state government that has become increasingly desperate as the Governor Willie Obiano administration winds to a close.

All what we have done were in exercise of our fundamental human rights and we emphasis that no one can take that from us.”

He insisted that freedom of speech and movements are enshrined in Nigeria’s constitution.

Nwankwo added any attempt against such would amount to muzzling the traditional institution.
