n a bid to curb crime and enhance security in the market, the Chairman of Old Car Parts Dealers Association, Mgbuka Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area on September 27, has taken significant steps by installing 51 CCTV cameras and 86 solar lights worth over N10M across the market.

Ifurunwa who made the disclosure in the market while the installations of the gadgets are ongoing, said that the market previously experienced insecurity, with traders being harassed and robbed during the day and at night, pointed out that the installations would ensure a safer environment for traders and customers.

According to him, Wherever you are in Mgbuka, the cameras will capture you, even while going out, the reason for installing these was that when I newly assumed office as the market chairman, I found out that the lapses in our market was insecurity.

“I noted that the market’s 25 security personnel were insufficient to cover the 20 zones we have in the market, prompting the need for additional security measures, then I went to one of the state chief security, Chief Chinenye Ihemko, (Okpompi) and demanded for more 25 security men which I employed, making them 50 security men and the robbery in the market minimized.

“We later found out that there were pick pockets in the market so we mounted cameras and CCTV cameras combined together in each junction, being the directive of the state government to all the market chairmen, to ensure that cameras and solar lights are in all the markets in the state.”

On the procurement of those gadgets, the chairman said that the idea was the outcome of the meeting held in the market with the larger stakeholders which comprised of the patrons, trustees and all the state chairmen in the South East.

Chief Ifurunwa assured that the market would maintain the project, saying that the cameras and solar lights are save because of adequate security which the market now enjoy, adding that security men and traders are keeping watch on those gadgets.

He commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his efforts in improving the welfare of traders, particularly through infrastructure development.

“In the history of Anambra State, no governor has done what Governor Soludo has done in Anambra State. He built one of our access roads, which started from NEPA – Mgbuka- Ibollo Community – Owerri Road, though the road has not been commissioned.

“Traders in Mgbuka have promised to give him our votes, our 100% votes are for Soludo as we have rebranded all the electric poles in Mgbuka with the photos and banners of Governor Soludo and his deputy. Even my vehicle is also rebranded, these showed the extent of campaign I have committed myself to do for the governor,” Ifurunwa posited
