Anambra Information Commissioner, Mefor Calls For Stronger Collaboration With LGAs

The Anambra State Commissioner for Information and Value Reformation, Dr. Law Mefor, has called for stronger collaboration between the State Ministry of Information and Local Government Areas, particularly Awka South, to effectively actualize the transformative agenda of the Soludo administration.

Dr. Mefor made the call during a courtesy visit to the Mayor of Awka South Local Government Area, Prince Chinedu Okafor, at his office in Amawbia, where he highlighted key areas of concern, including signage regulation, taxation, and sanitation.

The Commissioner noted that since the Ministry of Information, Local Government Councils, and other government agencies are all working towards a common goal, there is a need to eliminate friction and strengthen cooperation, and he emphasized that such synergy is crucial to achieving Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s vision of making Anambra a livable and prosperous homeland.

Dr. Mefor further stressed the importance of harmonization in signage control, taxation, and sanitation enforcement, and appealed to relevant agencies to carry out their duties with a human face, reminding them that governance is temporary and should always reflect empathy and fairness.

In his response, the Mayor of Awka South Local Government Area, Prince Chinedu Okafor, described the Ministry of Information as vital to governance, noting that access to accurate information is essential for societal order.

Addressing the issues raised, Prince Okafor affirmed that Awka South is complying with government directives and disclosed that the council is working closely with the Anambra State Internal Revenue Service to address the issue of double taxation in the interest of both the council and the state.

He, however, noted the need for increased public sensitization on sanitation to ensure greater compliance among residents.
