Anambra House audits 21 local government accounts
Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Public Accounts has
directed all local government authorities appearing before it for auditing of their 2016 budget to come with necessary documents to
enable it do a good job.
The committee stated this when the management of Onitsha North and South as well as Aguata Local Government Areas appeared before it for the verification of their audited 2016 budget.
Speaking during the meeting, the Chairman of the Committee, Mr Charles Ezeani explained that the 1999 constitution as amended empowers State Houses of Assembly to verify the audited account of every organ of
State government annually with a view to ensuring transparency in disbursement of government fund.
The committee charged local government authorities in the State to key into the reforms introduced by the State House of Assembly to reposition local government administration.
The committee after verifying the 2016 audited accounts of Aguata,
Onitsha South and North Local government Areas, asked Onitsha North local government authority to appear before it again on Wednesday next week.
In a vote of thanks, the Head of Administration, Onitsha North local
government area, Mr Emmanuel Okoro assured that they will meet the requirements of the committee in their next meeting.
