Anambra guber: Deployment of 100 Commanders will curb IPOB threat – CISCAES

Society Committee for Anti-Fraud Election Security (CISCAES), a non-Governmental Organisation in Nigeria, on Wednesday, says the deployment of one hundred additional police personnel by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Usman Alkali Baba, to secure Anambra electorates ahead of the November 6, governorship election, will further curbed the threat of the Indigineous People of Biafra (IPOB), in the state.

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba, on Tuesday ordered the immediate redeployment of 100 senior police officers to Anambra State for the peaceful conduct of the governorship election slated for November 6, 2021.

The deployment was contained in a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja by the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), CP Frank Mba.

He explained that the team comprising of selected seasoned strategic commanders from the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police and above was being headed by the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Joseph Egbunike, and to be assisted by the DIG in charge of Operations, Acting DIG Zaki Ahmed.

According to him, “other Strategic Commanders deployed to Anambra State include five Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIGs), 14 Commissioners of Police (CPs), 31 Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) and 48 Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs).

It was gathered that the deployment was to further build the confidence of the people before, during and after the election.

The Indigenous People of of Biafra, on their agitation, has declared one week sit-at-home protest from November 5 to prevail on the Federal to release its leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

Addressing a press conference in  Awka, the National President of the group, Comrade Kennedy Iyere, called on the eligible voters in the state to come out en masse and exercise their franchise as adequate security had been emplaced to protect them before, during and after the election.

He appealed to the former Head of State, General Abdulsami Abubakar, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, Senator Ahmed Bola Tinubu, Bishop Matthew Kuka and other relevant stakeholders including the traditional rulers in the state to advice President Muhammadu Buhari to engage IPOB in dialogue for the sake of a free, fair and peaceful election.

According to him, CISCAES, as a situation room for election monitoring in Nigeria, will not allowed any political party, particularly, the two major ruling party, APGA and APC to impose governor on Anambra people, through rigging.

He urged Anambra people not to go to bed when there is fire in the state ahead of the polls.

He noted that the establishment of the situation room will play a significant role in curbing rigging, ballot box snatching and other electoral security challenges during the process.

The running mate to People Democratic Party (PDP), candidate, Mr. Valentine Ozigbo, Mrs. Azuka Enemo, who also spoke at the conference, said that every Nigerian, irrespective of nationality, should be concerned about what is happening in Anambra state.

She urged the people not to leave any stone unturned in ensuring that Anambra is retained in good hands by voting for PDP candidate, Mr. Ozigbo.

She also urged INEC to conduct the exercise in a transperant manner without fear or favour.

On his part, the National Chairman of African Demogratic Congress (ADC), Chief Raph Okey Nwosu, while calling for a free and fair election, appeal to the Federal Government to unlabelled IPOB as terrorists group to curbed gunmen attacks in the South East zone.
