Anambra: Group threatens to disrupt Nov 6 election

Recover Nigeria Project, a right group, has threatened to frustrate and disrupt the conduct of Anambra state governorship election scheduled to hold November 16 if the state fails to elect officers to man affairs of her 21 council areas.

Anambra state had been using transition committee members in running affairs of the 21 local government areas since 2015 tenure of those elected by his predecessor elapsed.
The group convener,  Comrade Osita Obi, who gave the warning in a letter dated March 9 2021 and addressed to the State  INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, said their members were ready to lay down their lives to ensuring that the gubernatorial poll never hold.

Obi, whose groups had equally organised series of protest in Anambra state to draw government attention to the need to conduct election into the third tiers of government, argued that use of political appointees to run affairs of local  government areas was undemocratic.

“We want to draw your attention to the resolve of our members to disrupt and prevent the conduct of Anambra State governorship election scheduled on November 6 2021. The reason for this action is the state government refusal to conduct local government election for her citizens since inception.

“We have repeatedly demanded that local government election should be conducted in Anambra state to deepen democracy and enthrone political  justice. We warn that governorship election will not take place in Anambra state until local government election is conducted. We are ready to lay down our lives for this course. Democracy must be for all,” he added.
