Anambra Govt Sets Up Male, Female Football Teams, Targets Completion Of Stadium Project In Awka

Governor Willie Obiano, stated that the State government will deliver a new stadium in Awka in eleven months time. He gave this assurance at the Governor’s Lodge, Onitsha when members of the newly inaugurated Caretaker Committe of Anambra Football Association paid him a courtesy call.

The Committee members were led by the State Chairman of Anambra Sports Development Commission, Chief Tony Oli.

According to Governor Obiano who restated his determination to develop sports and football in particular in Anambra, expressed believe that the facility will further deepen development of football talents in the state.

While commending the NFF and the state Sports Development Commission, the Governor announced the establishment of male and female Anambra football teams called ‘Anambra Bombers and Anambra Babes’ and challenged the Committee members to invest their best to reposition Anambra football .

In his speech, the state Chairman of the Anambra Sports Development Commission, Chief Oli noted that turn around of sports in Anambra has been unprecedented in the past two years, expressing optimism that they will start rebuilding football in Anambra state.

He said that they have a 90 days mandate to pilot the affairs of football management in the state within which they will conduct election.

Responding, the Caretaker Committee Chairman of Anambra Football Association, Dr Emeka Okeke thanked the Governorfor rrecieving themand disclosed that they have already launched the Abanbra football campaign, to canvass grassroot support for football advancement in the State, assuring that they will provide updated reports on a weekly basis of their activities.
