Anambra Govt Launches Emergency Education In Orumba North And South

Anambra state ministry of basic education has launched a sensitization campaign for students in the rural areas to embrace the ongoing COVID- 19 emergency education.

The campaign was carried out in Orumba North and South Council Areas respectively.

The Commissioner for Basic Education, Professor Kate Omenugha who earlier stated that COVID-19 has shut schools down but cannot shut education down in the state explained that the campaign has become necessary as Government wants to ensure that no student irrespective of location or social class is left behind in the programme .

The Commissioner pointed out that the Ministry through the office of the Special Adviser to Governor Obiano on Public Orientation and Special Duties, Honourable Ify Obianabo sensitizes rural students on how to key into the programme tagged “Anambra teaching on Air” on ABS platforms.

Honourable Obinabo enlightened teachers, women group leaders, community leaders and stakeholders who in turn will take the message to parents and students in their various communities.

Speaking to the stakeholders in Orumba North and South who gathered at Ufuma and at the Orumba South Local Government Headquarters, Umunze respectively, Honourable Obinabo explained the schedule of On Air time table for different classes to include 9.30 am to10.30am on ABS 88.5 FM and 12 pm on ABS TV channel 24 for Primary Schools, 1 pm -2 pm on 88.5 FM and 3.30 pm on TV channel 24 for senior secondary schools, 7am -8Am on 88.5 FM and 11am on TV channel 24 for junior secondary schools.

The Special Adviser who noted that the schedule for each group of classes runs all through week days on ABS said the tutorials can as well be accessed on Facebook and Youtube.

She stressed the need for parents to be committed to the programme so as to know when to gather their children and wards for the lesson and to severe them from any form of distraction during those hours.
While sensitizing them on the need to embrace technological innovations in Education, Honourable Obinabo urged parents to allow their children access to android phones, computers, radio sets and Television for Education purposes especially in this era of COVID-19 emergency education so that they would not be cut off from the programme.

She called on well meaning individuals in communities to be part of the drive by providing as palliatives, smart phones or laptops for indigent students in the state.

Special Adviser also enjoined parents to sensitize their children on COVID-19 protocols while awaiting schools resumption.


Highlights of the campaign include questions and answers as well as commendations to the state Government for the laudable program.
