Anambra FA election: Delegates Reject Ex-Super Eagles Defender, Iloenyosi As Chairmanship Aspirant

There was mild drama at Fides Retreat in Awka, Anambra State capital, on Friday, as delegates who converged for election of board members of the Anambra State Football Association, voted against the sole aspirant, Mr Chikelue Iloenyosi, former Nigeria Super Eagles Defender.

Paradise News gathered that when it was time for the election of the chairman of the Anambra State FA board, the sole candidate for the position, Mr. Chikelie Iloenyosi, stood up. When delegates were given ballot papers to indicate either in favour or against the sole chairmanship aspirant, 19 delegates voted against the sole aspirant, while one delegate voted in his favour.

Following the outcome of the exercise, chairman of the electoral committee, Rev. Fr. Obinna Dike, announced that position of chairman of Anambra Football Association Board remained vacant.

He said: “Mr. Iloanyosi Chikelue, the sole chairmanship aspirant, failed to get majority votes. Therefore, he is not returned as chairman of Anambra Football Association chairman.”

Earlier, Engr. Victor Aniekwena was elected vice chairman of the board, while Mr. Oliver Ndigwe and Ralph Chigozie George were elected as board members representing Anambra Central District. Cordelia Alanna was elected to represent Anambra North District, while Barrister Joshua Onoja was elected to represent NFF in the board.

The electoral committee chairman, Rev. Fr. Obinna Dike, said that bye-election would be conducted in the near future to fill vacant positions.

Speaking on behalf of the elected members, the board’s Vice Chairman, Aniekwena Victor, commended the electoral committee for a job well done. He also commended sports writers and sports stakeholders in the state.

“We’ll do everything we can to give Anambra football every necessary boost. We are here to serve you. We need your support; with this support, we’ll give football its pride of place in the state.”, he added.
