Anambra Commissioner tasks Nnobi Women to report violence against women, children

The Anambra State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Mrs Ify Obinabo has tasked women not to hesitate in exposing and reporting any form of violence, deprivation, humiliation, sexual harassment or harmful customs and traditions meted against women or children in their various communities.

Speaking through the Director, Department of Women Affairs in the ministry, Mrs Hope Ekesiobi during the inauguration of the new executives of the Women’s Wing, Nnobi Welfare Association (Inyom Nnobi), at Nnobi, Idemili South, women were assured that the security conscious administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo does not harbor any kind of intimidation, bullying or molestation.

“The ministry is out to sensitize women on the need to speak up. Professor Soludo said If you see something say something. If you say it does not matter now, tomorrow it becomes matters arising. “Women are most victims of Gender based violence like rape, wife battering, hostility, obnoxious traditional customs and practices. Also we frown against child labour, maltreatment and torture. Infact, a family court has been established to expedite justice delivery in such cases,” said Mrs Ekesiobi.

Earlier in her acceptance speech, the Inyom Nnobi President General, Chief Mrs Ifeyinwa Nnekwelugo (Odiukonamba) who was formerly the Awuda quarter Chairlady eulogized the outgone executive members led by Lady Grace Ugoigwe(Ugochinyerenwanyi), her husband Chief Mike Nnekwelugo(Ifeadikanwanne) and the entire Nnobi women for believing in her to lead them.

Mrs Nnekwelugo promised the Delegates from the Ministry of Women Affairs that protecting the rights of women and children, widows, orphan, aged and less privileged will be part of her administrative agenda.

She said she would continue to foster peace among Nnobi women and ensure that the projects established by the previous leadership yield more dividends.

The Inyom Nnobi executives include Community Woman Leader/PG – Chief Mrs Ifeyinwa Nnekwelugo, 1st Vice president – Mrs Patricia Ezenabo, 2nd Vice President – Mrs Okwuoma Ezeakanibeya, Secretary – Mrs Ginika Nwigwe, Assistant Secretary – Mrs. Ngozi Okwuejiofor, Treasurer – Mrs Nneka Iloduba, Financial Secretary – Mrs. Philomena Ezeogu, Assistant Financial Secretary – Mrs Chinwe Ezunagu.

Others are Provosts – Mrs Nkoli Anieche, Mrs Angela Okoye and Mrs Afoma Ayotanze, Social – Mrs Azuka Emenari, Mrs Nnwanneka Ezeonu and Mrs Joy Okaigbue, Exofficio – Mrs Uju Okeke, Mrs Theresa Udoh.

Highlights of the occasion was the official handing over of documents/ staff of office by the past WPG to the New WPG and the inauguration of the new Inyom Nnobi exco jointly conducted by the Commissioner’s rep, Director, Department of Women Affairs, Mrs Hope Ekesiobi, Anambra State Association Town Union Women leader, Lady Franca Nwite represented by Mrs Uju Arinze and Idemili South Women Development Officer (WDO), Mrs Gloria Oby Nwosu.

In a vote of thanks, the Inyom Nnobi 1st VP, Mrs Patricia Ezenabo(College Umuagbala) thanked the State team for making out their time to honor the invitation despite their busy schedules pledging to abide by the rules and regulations establishing town unions women’s wing.
