Anambra commissioner assures women community leaders of government support

Anambra Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Mr.Tony-Collins Nwabunwanne, said that Government is well positioned to enthrone peaceful co-existence amongst communities of the state through encouragement of peaceful leadership.

Nwabunwanne said to achieve meaningful growth and development in the state, quality leadership must be attained in communities.

In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN)in Awka on Monday, the commissioner said that more arrangements have been made to ensure cordial relationship amongst all community leaders in the state, especially women community leaders, to ensure that no form of violence is done against women leadership.

Nwabunwanne said he has held various meetings with community leaders in the state comprising the President Generals of both men and  women wings independently to stress the need for understanding, cooperation and peace amongst them for even development.

The commissioner said that the state government under Prof. Charles Soludo does not want to witness gender inequity in leadership of the communities so as to achieve desired transformational leadership in rural areas.

He said that the ministry, in one of its  meetings with the women president Generals, assured them of good working relationships for rapid development of their communities and the state in general..

Nwabunwanne said that the ministry operates an open door policy and has given assurance to women president generals to report any challenges to his office at any time.

The commissioner urged the leaders to encourage active involvement of women in politics, as this can bring faster transformation of communities.

He said that the Soludo administration prioritises the welfare of women and plans to provide buses for them for effective coverage of their activities

“Soludo also promised to increase their salaries for optimal participation in community development,” the commissioner said.

The commissioner said that agricultural products have been given to the people and urged the leaders to distribute the Palm seedlings allocated to their communities to ensure that every household plants for bumper harvest.

He advised that community leaders should teach their women how to be good neighborhood watch agents who should report happenings in their domains to government for prompt intervention.

The commissioner commended the leadership of Anambra State Association of Town Unions (ASATU), especially the Women’s Wing led by Mrs. Ifeoma Okaro and her team and urged them to be very active in government affairs for the benefit of the women.
