The Anambra State Government, in collaboration with The Carter Centre, has successfully provided free hydrocelectomy surgeries to 165 individuals across the state.

Dr. Afam Obidike, the State Commissioner for Health, commended the program’s success, noting that the medical team has not reported any complications during the surgeries.

He also expressed gratitude to Governor Prof. Charles Soludo and The Carter Centre for their support in delivering this transformative opportunity to the people of Anambra.

This initiative aims to assist residents, particularly those from hard-to-reach communities, by addressing the medical condition known as hydrocele.

The surgeries were conducted at three major general hospitals in the state: Enugwu-Ukwu, Umueri, and Ekwulobia. Dr. Obidike explained that hydrocele—a condition characterized by painless swelling in the scrotum due to fluid buildup around the testicle—can significantly impact an individual’s quality of life and self-esteem.

“The necessity of these surgeries is evident, as they help restore the confidence of those affected by hydrocele.

“This program not only highlights the expertise of Anambra’s healthcare workers but also emphasizes the current administration’s commitment to enhancing the health sector.”

Dr. Chinenye Obi, Chief Medical Officer at Umueri General Hospital, confirmed that the facility is well-equipped for the procedures and has not experienced any casualties since the program’s inception.

One beneficiary, Mr. Somadina Nzegwu from Umuoba Anam, expressed his gratitude for the free surgery, recalling a previous expenditure of 380,000 Naira for a similar procedure three years ago. He praised Governor Soludo and The Carter Centre for offering these surgeries at no cost and prayed for their continued success.

  4. Hmm it looks like your site ate my first comment (it was extremely long) so I guess I’ll just sum it up what I submitted and say, I’m thoroughly enjoying your blog. I too am an aspiring blog blogger but I’m still new to the whole thing. Do you have any recommendations for rookie blog writers? I’d certainly appreciate it.
