Anambra 2023: Ayamelum Disowns Speaker Over Third Term Ambition

0

Ayamelum constituents in Anambra state have renounced the third term aspiration of the incumbent Speaker and the lawmaker representing Ayamelum state constituency, asserting that the zoning treaty in Ayamelum must be respected.

Barr. Mike Ikegbunam a legal luminary from Omor in Ayamelum local government area who spoke with journalists at Marbel Arch hotel Awka yesterday, said the people of Ayamelum have been taken for granted for too long and they would no longer tolerate it in 2023 and henceforth especially as it is clear to every sane person that it is the turn of Omor to represent Ayamelum in the state assembly.

The legal luminary said they have been told a lot of stories in the past which they fell for but this time they were fully prepared for the Speaker and that they would do everything humanly possible to ensure and make sure that the Speaker does not return to the House of Assembly in 2023.

Ikegbunam said,  “There was an allegation that the Speaker did well. That is arrant nonsense. The Speaker gave me a bag of fertilizer and I wonder how that translates to his wonderful performance.”

“Let me take you down memory lane. The Speaker went for the first time on what is called zoning arrangement. The Speaker is a product of zoning arrangement in Ayamelum. He came again a second time and told us that the governor was interested in making him the Speaker and we accepted.”

“Now, the same Speaker has come again to say that Soludo told him to go again and become the Speaker that he has known how to manage the house members and we are saying no; that it is the turn of the central which is Omor my town.”

“What did the Speaker do ? If you doubt what I am saying, come to Ayamelum from the beginning to the end you won’t see any constituency projects done by this young man. He is my relative and a very good friend of mine but we are saying no to third tenure. Reasons being that in the first place he performed abysmally poor and no constituency project you can attribute to Uche Okafor for close to 8 years now.”

Barr. Ikegbunam also disclosed that from investigations Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo never told the Speaker that he would be Speaker again in the 8th assembly; that as a matter of fact, he did absolutely nothing to warrant a second term let alone a third term.

The distinguished lawyer further revealed that Ayamelum did not endorse the Speaker for a third term contrary to alleged media reports.

When contacted to respond to the allegations of poor performance in office as well as an alleged endorsement for his third term aspiration, the Speaker Rt. Hon. Uche Victor Okafor did not reply to the text message the journalist sent to his phone and thereafter switched off his phone.
