Akwuukwu Women Seek Support To Establish Palm Oil and Cassava Processing Plants

…as Union Records Achievements in Child Protection, Peace Building, others

The President, Akwuukwu Improvement Union AIU Women’s Wing (Inyom Akwuukwu), Mrs Sussana Nwaolili Ezeh has appealed to members, community leaders, government agencies, philanthropists and well-meaning individuals to support the establishment of Palm oil mill, Cassava Processing Plant and other initiatives of the Inyom Akwuukwu leadership.

Speaking during the 2026 August Women’s Meeting which held at the Women’s hall, Akwuukwu, Idemili South LGA, Anambra State, Mrs Sussana Ezeh said that the projects and other prosperous initiatives would make life less stressful for Akwuukwu Women and children.

Presenting her address, Mrs Sussana Ezeh said that the Palm oil and Cassava processing plants would be established on the plot of land recently alloted to the women wing by the town union through the AIU President General, Sir Udoka Ejiakor.

According to her, other matters requiring attention and support include, Prayers and Spiritual Support for the goals and objectives of the union. Continued Promotion of Peace, Love, and Unity among women and the wider community.

“Support for Ongoing Projects to enable successful execution. Job Creation for Women through expanded vocational and income-generating programs. Women Empowerment with skills, financial assistance, tools, and resources.

“Protection of Vulnerable Women and Children including widows, orphans, and the helpless. Welfare and Protection of the Girl Child through education and a safe environment. Ending Domestic Violence by prevention, advocacy, and encouraging victims to speak out.

“With unity, love, commitment, and collective effort, we can build a safer, stronger, and more prosperous community for our women, children, and future generations,” Mrs Eze stated.

She further presented a report of the association’s achievements in the last 12 months. “Our milestone achievements include: Peace and Unity: Deliberate efforts were sustained to promote peace, unity, understanding, and reconciliation among women in Akwuukwu and beyond.

“Cultural Participation: The union actively participated in the Akwuukwu Cultural Day, contributing to the promotion and preservation of our cultural heritage and traditions.

“Skills Acquisition and Empowerment: Members participated in Women and Youth Skills Acquisition programs at Ojoto, where many benefited from opportunities designed to improve skills and economic independence.

“Child Protection: The union successfully rescued a child found with a mentally challenged woman. The child was handed over to the Office of the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Child Welfare for proper care and protection.

“International Women’s Day: The union organized a successful International Women’s Day Celebration in Akwuukwu, promoting solidarity, awareness, and empowerment.

“Union Registration: With the support of Iyom Chief Hon. Amaka Obi, the Akwuukwu Improvement Union (Women Wing) was successfully registered with relevant government authorities.

“Establishment of a Training Centre: Through the support of the Mayor of Idemili South, Hon. Amaka Obi, the union established a training centre in Akwuukwu. Over 150 women and youths are currently undergoing vocational training in: Baking, Hairdressing, Tailoring, Leather Works, Wig Making.
The union expressed confidence that upon completion, beneficiaries will become self-reliant, create jobs, and contribute to the economic development of the community.

“With the promise of the President General, Sir Udoka Ejiofor (Omeokachie) fulfilled today, our cottage industry will be established soon. We thank the AIU for providing the land,” said Mrs Ezeh.

She also expressed her gratitude for the huge financial support given by the Mother of the Day, Lolo Anene Ofokarja and the Father of the Day including other individuals who made the 2026 August Women’s Meeting a success.

Moreso, the Vice President, Okanumee Odibeze Nwanyi thanked God for a successful August Women’s meeting saying that with the help of God no Akwuukwu woman wether indigent or widow would be left behind.

Mayor of Idemili South, Hon Mrs Amaka Obi Iyom Ifeabata after advising Akwuukwu Women on the need to embrace handiwork and hardwork, discipline and contentment, peace and unity thanked them for their support during her administration.

Mrs Amaka Obi urged them to support all the All Progressive Grand Alliance APGA party candidates for both State and National legislative elections pleading with the women to vote massively for the Mayorial APGA candidate for Idemili South, Hon Oluchukwu Ilogbenu Olutek come August 29, 2026.

However, the AIU President General, Sir Udoka Ejiakor appealed to Akwuukwu Women to continue praying for the peace of Akwuukwu community so that God would intervene and heal their land saying that Akwuukwu community was having both internal and external challenges.

Moreso, Hon Chiamaka Jessie Okpala, ADC State House of Assembly Candidate for Idemili South who was represented by Hon Ezenwa Chukwudi advised mothers to bring up their children well for a better society saying that mothers are pillars of every home.” Everything starts from family and our mothers should persevere and nurture their children unto a bright future”.

Highlights of the Inyom Akwuukwu August Women’s meeting include, Solidarity visit from all the Community Women Leaders of Idemili South, health seminar, fashion parade with different tribal dances, itu Mpete cultural dance, Akuko Uwa, Thanksgiving, financial address, etc.
