Akwuukwu New Town Executive pledges to Empower youths , Restore Electricity

The Akwuukwu Improvement Union (AIU) Newly elected executive members have pledged to empower more unemployed youths and repair several electric transformers to ensure that places experiencing power outage would start enjoying electricity.

Speaking after their inauguration at Community Primary School, Akwuukwu in idemili South, Anambra State, the President General (PG), Mr. Uchenna Anayo who defeated his opponent Patrick Chukwudozie to be re-elected gave the assurance.

Anayo said during his previous administration several electricity transformers were repaired saying that the remaining ones would be tackled headlong during his second tenure.

“I will do my best. Many of our transformers were in bad condition while some others were vandalized by hoodlums. We met only two functional transformers when we assumed office.

“We were able to repair five(5) of them during my past administration and we are going to ensure that others are repaired so as to ensure adequate power supply in our community.

“Also, we have planned to conduct quiz competitions for Nursery, Primary and Secondary schools after which successful students would be given scholarship from the various villages of Akwuukwu town”, said Anayo.

According to the Vice President, Engr. Azubuike Umeadi ,“Community leadership entails sacrifice. It is not going to be business as usual. We are very serious about empowering the youths through skill acquisition and scholarship schemes.

The AIU executives members comprise Alphonsus Uchenna Anayo, President General; Azubuike Umeadi , Vice President; Ifeanyi Obumneme, Secretary; Cosmas Eze, Assistant Secretary; Ekene Obi, Financial Secretary.

Others are Ifeanyi Igwilo, Treasurer; Obinna Alokwe, Public relations officer and Ifeamaka Nwoji, Home Affairs. They all pledged to support the PG towards lifting Akwuukwu community unto greater heights.

The Electoral chairman Professor Raymond Osemenam thanked everyone for their maximum cooperation during the accreditation cum election adjudged to be free and fair.” We adopted Option A4 system to ensure transparency”.

Moreover, An Akwuukwu community stakeholder and veteran journalist, Mr. Don Onyenji advised the executives to run an inclusive administration saying that the community expects more from them.

“The new Town Union executives should run an inclusive administration that will take cognizance of the stakeholders of the town, listen to superior advice, allow constructive criticism and tidy up our constitution.

“The PG has a guangantum task. He should speedy the process of selecting a new Igwe which includes organizing a last ofalla for the late traditional ruler and finishing Akwuukwu’s new constitution”, said Onyenji.
