Akwaeze Community Honors UNIZIK Vice-Chancellor, Esimone

The Uruolu village in Akwaeze town rolled out drums on Tuesday to celebrate one of their illustrious sons, Professor Charles Okechukwu Esimone, FAS on his remarkable achievements as Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.

The event which coincided with the Vice-Chancellor’s 50th birthday anniversary had in attendance friends, captains of industries, members of the Federal and state legislature, the Judiciary, traditional rulers, government appointees, the University community, among numerous others.

In his address, the president-General of Akwaeze community, Dr. Ignatius Maduka praised Prof. Esimone for his uncommon commitment to the growth and development of the Village and town as a whole. He stated that Prof. Esimone has distinguished himself in his profession as a Pharmacist and has gone ahead to show the light as Vice-Chancellor of the institution.

The Traditional ruler of the community, His Royal Majesty, Igwe Christopher Okpala (Ezennebo III Akwaeze) commended the Vice-Chancellor on his enviable achievements within one year in office.

The Chairman of the occasion, MD/CEO Chamberlain Link Concept, Mr. Ifedi Ndikwomfu extolled the leadership strides of Prof. Esimone, while describing the grand reception as timely.

In his remarks, Professor Esimone expressed gratitude to the community for deeming it pertinent to celebrate him. He appreciated friends who had gathered in his honour for identifying with him noting that this goes a long way to explain the confidence they repose in him. He assured that the honour will spur him in doing more for the University and the community.

Highlights of the event include the foundation laying ceremony of the village’s ultra-modern civic centre, the Award of Certificate of Recognition to the illustrious sons of the village, and the outing of Uruolu women’s cultural dance.

Dignitaries present at the occasion include Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial district, Sen. Uche Ekwunife, the Obi of Onitsha HRH Igwe Alfred Achebe, the Vice-Chancellor, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Prof. Greg Nwakoby, the CEO JEZCO Group, Sir J.J Okafor, Sir (Dr.) Godwin Ubaka Okeke of GUO Transport and Logistics, the Honourable Member representing Dunukofia, Njikoka, and Anaocha Federal Constituency, Hon. Dozie Nwankwo, the Honourable Member representing Oyi/Ayamelum Federal Constituency, Hon. Barr. Vincent Ofumelu, Engr. Johnbosco Onunkwo, former APC’s National Auditor, Sir Paul Chukwuma, Chief Sir Ikenna Okafor (Ide Akwaeze), the traditional rulers of Neni, Obeledu, Mbaukwu, and Umunya.
