Members of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) Anambra State Chapter, under the chairmanship of Mrs. Esther Chinyelu Anyaegbunam, have demonstrated their unwavering love and commitment to their profession as actors and filmmakers by gathering en masse for the National Screening and Induction Ceremony held on Saturday, 22nd February, 2025, in Obosi, Anambra State.

The event, which featured the verification of membership status, screening, induction, and issuance of certificates to qualified members, attracted the presence of several national dignitaries of the body, including Comrade Clement Anigboo (aka AB Cowboy), National Vice President, South East, Hon. Lolo Oby Okafor, National Treasurer AGN, and the immediate past Chairman, Evang. Leo Ewuzie.

The purpose of the screening and induction of members by the Actors Guild of Nigeria is to ascertain and officially acquire accurate records of members to keep abreast of those who are genuinely practicing in the movie industry under AGN. This was explained by Mrs. Esther Chinyelu Anyaegbunam, Chairman of AGN, Anambra State Chapter, in a brief interview with Odogwu Media Communications.

“We are conducting this screening and induction exercise so that we will be able to know our members and compile their profiles, which will be sent to our webpage. The benefit is that it will allow us to get our profiles at a glance and will also help the taskforce while discharging their duty to know those who are real members by accessing their profiles on our website,” Mrs. Anyaegbunam stated.

The AGN National Vice President, South East Zone, Comrade Clement Anigboo, while speaking to Odogwublog TV, added that the reason for the exercise is for the Anambra State Chapter to know its membership strength. He said, “The Anambra State chapter wants to know how many members they have, who is current, who is who, so that the chairman can account for any member of the guild from Anambra State. So, we are here to observe how smooth the exercise will be.”

Speaking further, Comrade Anigboo noted that he has contributed to the development of Anambra AGN by supporting their programs and offering encouragement and guidance to the executives so they don’t derail. In his words of advice, AB Cowboy urged practicing members to be focused and disciplined as they are seen as role models looked upon by people.

The National Treasurer of AGN, Hon. Lolo Oby Okafor, spoke on the financial state of the guild: “As the National Treasurer of the guild, I can tell you that we don’t have money. We are pleading with the Federal Government to allocate funds to the guild’s national coffers so we can distribute and take care of the states. When there is money in the guild’s national account, a lot of production will be going on in Anambra State. If we don’t have sponsors, there won’t be production. So, if there is money in the guild’s national coffers, I will take care of Anambra first because that’s where I come from,” Lolo Oby said.

Chief Chris Okwudili Ezeolisa, the Chairman of the Screening and Induction Committee AGN, Anambra State, stated that the reason for the screening and induction exercise is to cleanse the guild, noting that the guild is too open, and there is a need to checkmate members to know who the real members are.

The immediate past Chairman of the guild, Evang. Leo Ewuzie, alongside a few other members of the guild, expressed profound joy over the development and commended the current Chairman, Mrs. Esther Anyaegbunam, and her executives for their innovative initiatives.

Addressing members of the Actors Guild of Nigeria before the collection of their certificates, the Chairman congratulated them on a successful screening and induction exercise. She noted that obtaining the guild’s form is not enough to make one a bonafide member of AGN; members are expected to undergo further screening for proper examination.
She advised that filmmaking is not meant for everyone, and it’s important for individuals to know where their strengths lie and follow them. Mrs. Anyaegbunam assured members that a week from the screening day, every successfully screened member will be able to access their profile on the guild’s website.
