ACOMIN calls for end to sharp practices in treatment of Malaria

The Civil Society for Malaria Control, Immunisation, and Nutrition ACOMIN in Anambra state has called for and end to sharp practices carried out by medical personnel in the treatment of malaria in state hospitals and primarily health care centers PHCs
This was the crux of its monthly review meeting at Leisure Hilton Hotel in Awka the state capital.
The Community based organisations led by it’s state coordinator under the Auspices of ACOMIN led by the state coordinator Mrs Chioma Okeke noted that their investigation revealed that patients were frustrated at the lack of malaria commodities in the PHCs,
high cost of treatment in the PHCs,
poor awareness of some community members about Anambra State Health Insurance Agency (ASHIA)
According to their findings some unscrupulos medical personnel have developed the habit of diverting and selling subsidized malaria drugs and kits at exorbitant rate which has discouraged patients from treatment despite
It called on the state government to take the necessary step to nip the unwholesome act in the bud by investigating and fishing out the medical personnels involved in such illegal activities for decisive action.
Responding to their demands the state malaria program officer Mr. Nonso Ndibe who represented the State Govt promised to look into their findings and commended the Civil Society for Malaria Control, Immunisation, and Nutrition ACOMIN for it’s efforts in eliminating the scourge of malaria in the state
According to him the state government partnership with ACOMIN and other relevant stake holders has led to a drastic decrease in the prevalence of malaria in Anambra state.
“The Governor,Prof Soludo is very passionate about the fight against malaria and will continue to strengthen relationship with ACOMIN to make their work easier,as it stands today Anambra has the lowest rate of malaria prevalence in the South East and and this in no small measure shows that the efforts being deployed is bearing fruits”
