Abia Police Arrest 17 Suspected Cultists, Armed Robbers

No fewer that 14 persons suspected to be members of cult groups have been arrested by Abia state police command.

Parading the suspects in Umuahia, the state capital, the Commissioner of Police, CP Janet Agbede, said 14 of the suspects were arrested on 31st August, 2020, at about 17:45 hours in Amokwe and Akanu Item communities by team of policemen attached to Bende Police Division led by the Divisional Police Officer.

Agbede said the operation was carriedout in conjunction with youths and vigilante members of the two communities. She said their arrest took place at the initiation ground of Vikings and Aro Fraternity.

The suspects include Nnamani Christian, Chiemezuo Chijioke, Micheal David, Abayi Emeka and Obinna Eze. Other suspects includes, Agu Chukwuemeka, Ndubuisi Ibekwe, Chimuanya Ozoemena, Samuel Eke Agu, Maxwell Okpara, Stephen Chukwuemeka, Eke Ndubuisi, Ndubuisi Dick Nwafor and Ezinwa Egbujor.

Exhibits recovered include one locally made single barrel gun and axe.

Similarly, the command, on 15th August, 2020, at about 21:30 hours, acting on information, arrested three suspected cultists in Umuobia, Ahiaukwu Olokoro Umuahia and recovered the exhibits in their possession. According to the CP, the suspects whose names were given as Obinna Nwachukwu, Onyedikachi Ike and Anayo Ogbonna, were undergoing investigation and would be charged to court upon completion of investigation.
