Abia PDP Urges Residents to Reject APC in 2027, Warns Against Return to Failed Leadership
The Abia State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on residents of the state to reject the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections, w@rning that supporting the ruling party would worsen hardship and stall development.
The appeal was made by the party’s caretaker committee chairman, Ikpegbu Emeka-Yellow, during a press conference held in Umuahia. He argued that voting for the APC would amount to endorsing “hardship, stagnation, and regression,” urging citizens to resist what he described as attempts to reintroduce failed leadership into the state.
Emeka-Yellow alleged that many politicians currently aligning with the APC in Abia were individuals who had previously contributed to underdevelopment and poor governance. He cautioned voters not to be deceived by what he called a “rebranding” of such figures under a new political platform.
The PDP leader stressed that Abia requires progressive and accountable leadership, not recycled politicians driven by personal interests. He maintained that the state had made progress and should not be allowed to “go backwards.”
He also called on political stakeholders across party lines to prioritise the collective interest of the state and defend democratic values ahead of the 2027 elections, which he described as crucial to the future of both Abia and Nigeria.
In addition, the party extended an invitation to other opposition groups to collaborate in resisting any attempt by the APC to dominate the political space through undemocratic means.
The PDP further urged its members to remain united and committed, expressing confidence that the party is repositioned and prepared to present credible candidates in the upcoming elections.
At the national level, the party accused the APC-led government of worsening economic conditions, rising insecurity, and w£akening democratic institutions, claiming that many Nigerians are struggling to meet basic needs due to inflation and unemployment.
The statement underscores growing political tensions in Abia State as parties begin early positioning ahead of the 2027 general elections.
