PALMWINE ROUND TABLE: A NEW PLATFORM FOR FRANK, FEARLESS AND UNFILTERED CONVERSATIONS ABOUT SOCIETY

A new and unconventional conversation platform, PALMWINE ROUND TABLE, is set to create a relaxed but thought-provoking space where Nigerians can openly discuss some of the most critical issues affecting individuals, families and society.

PALMWINE ROUND TABLE is designed around a simple philosophy: when people relax, drop their guards and speak freely, the truth often comes to the surface.

The platform will bring together people from different backgrounds and walks of life to discuss issues that are sometimes difficult, controversial or uncomfortable to address in conventional settings.

From marriage and relationships to culture, politics, family, leadership, business, entertainment, religion, youth development, social values and contemporary societal challenges, PALMWINE ROUND TABLE will provide an avenue for honest conversations, diverse opinions and constructive arguments.

A “HOLD NO BARREL” CONVERSATION

At the heart of PALMWINE ROUND TABLE is the spirit of “Hold No Barrel” — meaning participants are encouraged to speak their minds, hold nothing back and address issues honestly.

The concept draws inspiration from the traditional social atmosphere around palm wine, where people gather, relax, exchange stories, debate issues and sometimes say what they would ordinarily keep to themselves.

However, the essence of the programme is not about promoting alcohol consumption. Rather, palm wine serves as a cultural symbol of relaxation, community and open conversation.

The objective is to create an environment where people can remove the mask, challenge conventional thinking and have the conversations that society needs to have.

MORE THAN ENTERTAINMENT

PALMWINE ROUND TABLE is not intended to be another entertainment programme. It is envisioned as a social conversation platform that combines entertainment, culture, education and public discourse.

Each edition will feature carefully selected topics and guests, with discussions designed to generate laughter, debate, reflection and, most importantly, solutions.

Possible conversation themes include:

  • Marriage & Relationships: Why are modern relationships struggling?
  • Culture & Tradition: What should we preserve and what should we change?
  • Politics & Governance: What do Nigerians really expect from their leaders?
  • Youth & Society: Where is the next generation heading?
  • Family & Parenting: Are traditional family values disappearing?
  • Men & Women: Are we really listening to each other?
  • Entertainment & Nollywood: Is the creative industry telling our authentic African stories?
  • Business & Survival: How are ordinary Nigerians navigating today’s economy?
  • Leadership & Accountability: Who should be responsible for fixing society?
  • Social Media: Are we becoming more connected or more divided?
  • Religion & Society: How should faith influence our everyday lives?
  • African Identity: What does it mean to be African in today’s world?

WHERE EVERY OPINION COUNTS

PALMWINE ROUND TABLE will welcome different perspectives. Guests may disagree, challenge one another and even have heated debates, but the platform will encourage respectful disagreement and meaningful dialogue.

The programme will feature personalities from different sectors, including actors, filmmakers, traditional rulers, politicians, entrepreneurs, academics, journalists, relationship experts, cultural advocates, entertainers, youths and members of the general public.

The goal is not necessarily to make everyone agree.

The goal is to make people talk.

“THE TRUTH COMES OUT WHEN THE GUARD COMES DOWN”

The philosophy behind PALMWINE ROUND TABLE is captured in its conversational spirit:

«“When the guard comes down, the truth comes out.”»

In a society where many people are often careful about what they say publicly, PALMWINE ROUND TABLE seeks to create a space where difficult questions can be asked and genuine opinions can be expressed.

It will be a place for stories, arguments, laughter, revelations, cultural conversations and uncomfortable truths.

BUILDING A COMMUNITY OF CONVERSATION

PALMWINE ROUND TABLE also aims to become a community-driven platform where members of the public can suggest topics, ask questions and participate in conversations about issues that directly affect their lives.

The programme will be presented through a combination of live conversations, recorded episodes, digital content, audience participation and social media engagement, making the discussions accessible to a wider audience.

Ultimately, PALMWINE ROUND TABLE seeks to become a recognizable African conversation brand — rooted in Nigerian culture but addressing issues that resonate across Africa and beyond.
