Soludo Inaugurates 8th Governing Council of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University

Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has officially inaugurated the eighth Governing Council of the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), charging the new members to prioritize academic excellence and institutional growth.

The inauguration ceremony, which took place at the Light House in Awka, marks a new chapter for the state-owned institution as the administration continues its drive to reposition the university as a center of innovation and high-standard research.

The newly inaugurated Council is led by Prof. Peter A. Onwualu, who assumes the role of Chairman and Pro-Chancellor. He is supported by a team of distinguished external and internal members tasked with steering the policy direction of the university.

External Members are Igwe Dr. Chris Oranu Chidume, Prof. O. J. Ogbuagu, Chief Christopher Ndubuisi, AIG Chris Ezike (Rtd)

The internal representation comprises the university’s top management and elected Senate representatives; Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha– Vice-Chancellor, Prof. A. C. Nweke– Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration & Environmental Sustainability), Prof. Obiora Ejiofor – Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Prof. Sylvia Okonkwo– Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development & Uli Campus Affairs)

Senate Representatives in Council include; Prof. Matthias O. Ananti, Prof. Ogonna Ifebi, Prof. Nkeiruka Orji, Prof. MaryJude Igbodika and Dr. Chukwunonso Ekesiobi.

During the inauguration, Governor Soludo emphasized the critical role of the Governing Council in maintaining the university’s stability and expanding its academic horizon, pointing out that the Council is expected to work closely with the Vice-Chancellor, to implement reforms that align the university with global best practices and the developmental goals of Anambra State.

The event concluded with a formal commitment by Chairman of the Council, Professor Onwualu, to uphold the values of the institution and contribute their expertise to the advancement of COOU.
