JDPC Nnewi Launches ALGAF Program to Foster Accountable Governance in Anambra

The Justice, Development, and Peace/Caritas (JDPC) Nnewi has launched the Anambra Local Government Accountability Fellowship (ALGAF) program, a groundbreaking initiative designed to promote accountable, responsive, and people-driven governance in Anambra State.
The program, which was formally inaugurated on September 8, 2025, aims to reshape how communities engage with their local government systems and ensure that governance is truly serving the people. With technical support from the Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room (NCSR) and funding from the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), the ALGAF program is set to inspire a new model of citizen-led engagement in governance and service delivery.
During the virtual onboarding session, 45 fellows were welcomed into the program, representing a diverse range of stakeholders, including youth, women, persons with disabilities, and grassroots leaders. The fellows were selected from across the three senatorial zones of Anambra State, ensuring a broad-based representation of the state’s communities.
Rev. Fr. Benedict Chima Okolo, Director of JDPC Nnewi, emphasized that the ALGAF program is not just another project but a platform for shaping a future of accountable governance. He highlighted JDPC Nnewi’s enduring legacy in justice, peacebuilding, and community empowerment.
One of the Program lead Onyekachi Ololo, in introducing the ALGAF project, described it as a social experiment that redefines how citizens can co-create governance models that truly serve the people. He assured the fellows and stakeholders of transparent, inclusive, and efficient resource management, which is a cornerstone of accountability.
The program’s communications framework, which highlights storytelling, visibility, and digital engagement, was also unpacked to the fellows. A vibrant Q&A session revealed the fellows’ energy, curiosity, and determination to drive change within their local government spaces.
