Labour unions, opposition figures, and activists have rejected plans by the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) to raise salaries of President Bola Tinubu, governors, ministers and other officials.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) called the move “insensitive and inequitable,” warning it would deepen poverty. Atiku Abubakar’s camp described it as wasteful and anti-people, while activist lawyer Nkereuwem Akpan urged slashing lawmakers’ allowances instead.

Critics argue the proposal is ill-timed amid economic hardship and growing inequality.
