The residents of Fegge Community, Onitsha South Local Government Area, Anambra state, were in jubilation mood as the Council Mayor, Hon. Chief Emeka Orji procured four transformers for some streets in the area to ensure effective power supply.
Speaking after the distribution of those transformers to the residents, the Mayor disclosed that the distributed transformers were for the replacement of those ones that were damaged due to excessive rain and sun that hit them.
According to him,” The transformers were distributed to Fegge wards, 1,3 and 5, by the former Lawmaker, and were left without installation and connection for more than two years now, which caused damage to them but if they had been connected all this while, they will be drying the rains falling on them because it is hitting and as well, will not damage.
“So, with series of complaints from the affected streets, I have to send some people for it, and the EEDC officials carried them because they are their properties, so I have to replace them with new ones.
“And I promised them that I will also step those transformers down, oil them for immediate use, others with transformer issue should wait because stepping down a transformer is too costlier than buying a new one, so after this we face others,” he further disclosed.
In his contribution, the Special Adviser to the Mayor on Political Matters, Comrade Dunu Chiadikobi thanked the Mayor for responsive leadership style noting that, his approach to governance is eye marked and not ear marked
According to him,” My street was also among, we went for it and the cost then was #3 Million Naira plus, it was too much, so everyone felt reluctant. So this time, it was reported to Mayor who was already at work with the EEDC on installation of Secretariat transformer and he used the opportunity to discuss with the EEDC officials who carried those transformers and replaced them with new ones.
“The old ones are still with them.so the Mayor is installing them by himself,” he added .
Reacting on the procurement of the transformers, the Councillor representing Fegge ward 3, Hon Chinedu Okoro lauded the Mayor and reminded him of the stepping down and oiling which he promised, expressing optimism that by next week he would start working on them
He reiterated that the Mayor has been doing a lot for the constituents, and urged him not to relent even as he reminded him of the solar light he promised.
Speaking, the Chairman of Father Joseph Street, Mr Ikechukwu Digi (Yoko) disclosed “The carrying of the transformer on the directives of the council mayor caused a lot of chaos in our street but I thank God the Mayor replaced it as he promised.
“On behalf of the residents of father Joseph Street, I commend him for he is doing very well, I pray for God’s blessings on him, the family and on his workers. He is not the first chairman of Onitsha South LG, others have been coming and going but he is the only one that remembered us, we appreciate him.
“We also want to remind him of his promise, the stepping down the transformer and the oiling. We will be glad if they are done, we also thank the Chairman of Fegge Landlords Association, Okwudili Obinwune who is also my brother, we thank and appreciate them,” he stated.
