COOU to Honour Soludo, Onyido, Okonkwo, Others — Set to Celebrate Silver Jubilee & Convocation in Grand Style

Chukwuemeka Odomegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam will this weekend honour the wife of the Anambra state Governor, Dr. Nonye Soludo , the traditional ruler of Ogidi kingdom, Igwe (Pharm) Alex Onyido, a business icon, Emmanuel Okonkwo and others for their Contributions and impactations to the institution and the society.
This was disclosed during combine silver jubilee and convocation ceremonies press briefing at the conference hall of the institution by the Acting Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha.

The theme of the combine ceremonies is: ‘Advancing Partnership to Global Impact’ while the venue of the event is ETF Auditorium, Igbariam campus.
According to Prof Omenugha, the institution is celebrating cultural existence, togetherness and pride in the name of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, the hero of our time.
“This two activities will mark the twenty five years of our existence. It is a time to look back, forward and a time for gratitude, a time for charitable works and thanks to God for this 25 years of existence .
“Chief Odumegwu Ojukwu university formerly called Anambra state University of Science and Technology was established in the year 2000 with 500 students, 56 members of staff, 23 teaching and 33 non teaching staff .

“Today we can beat our chest and say we have 2800 percent increase in the university. We now have 667 teaching staff and 915 non teaching staff and 200 professors.
“The school of postgraduate studies started in the year 2008 with 18 departments and 6 faculties. In 2025, we have 54 departments and 14 faculties.

” A university that started with 500 students now have 23,500 students and some of our departments are over subscribed because of a suitable readable environment. That is something we are prowd of and we must hold on to.
“In our university, Medicine, Nursing among other Courses we run, have full accreditation. It is something that we can hit our chest because it comes from the sacrifice of the members of the staff and others .
“We have increase in infrastructure but there are some areas that we are still working on.
“We are celebrating excellence, togetherness and pride in the name Chukwuemeka Odumeqwu Ojukwu and that is why we are working very high to see that this university truly represent what Ojukwu is known for .
“We are using this opportunity to thank those who contributed in one way or the other to the growth of this university especially the former Vice Chancellors and Pro Chancellors.
“Meanwhile We are using this week of celebration to have a road show on Saturday in line with what Mr Governor’s wife, Dr. Nonye Soludo is doing in healthy work from Amaku to state House of Assembly where we will be presenting some significant gifts to House of assembly members because without them the law would have not been passed and signed .
“We will equally go back to our root (Uli) where we started from. We have a church service and medical checks to the people of Uli.
“A.B.C Orjiako, Fort Dike and others will be recognized as people who made sure that the university stands and 21 Gun salutes, 25 pigeons will be release as sign of peace of heart
“The jubilee year celebration will feature long service award, we are going to do something on security, scholarship, founders and heritage day which will showcase what we produce in this university,
showcase our culture, states that have passed through this school because we have 24 states that have passed through this school and this will also show that we are one .
“There will be recognition of those who have actually attended part of our heritage. We have 25 alumni members who will receive recognition from us .We call it 25 /25 , next year will be 26/ 26. We are doing these to build relationships and bridges.
Other awards to be presented includes trailblazer, Ojukwu legacy among others.
