Chief Clifford Iloegbunne Okoye one time chairman of Nigeria bar association (NBA) Aguata branch Anambra state and a member of the national Nigeria bar association conference organizing committee has thrown his support on the recent walk out staged by river state women on the state sole administrator wife saying that it is high time the ongoing state of emergency in the state should be lifted by the Federal government for a democratic elected government to come back in the state.
Making this position known while speaking with newsmen on the ongoing state of emergency in river state in his office at Onitsha yesterday, Okoye who described the declaration of the emergency as an impunity and a rape on Nigeria constitution and governance noted that there was nothing that happened to warrant the invocation of the emergency as the state was not in a state of war or neither invaded by a foreign country or that the state governor has written to the police complaining that security has broken down to the extent that he will not control it again.
Saying that every factors necessitating an emergency declaration did not arise, he stated that now is the time to stop this impurity positing that the women of the state has spoken the minds of majority of river state people that want democracy to come back in their state.
Said the legal practitioner “This river state debacle portend danger for the nation democracy, it exposes most Nigeria politicians who claims that they are democrats but are against the tenets of democratic governance, what this disgraceful action is showing is that the 1999 constitution is no longer operational in river state an can be easily be tampered in every state and Nigeria in general, am in support of national NBA position against this action, this declaration of emergency is an obnoxious conduct and should not be allowed to go on, I am pained by the conduct of the national assembly who could have prevented this but unfortunately are rubber stamp of executive.”
