Student Loan Scandal: Minister Meets VCs as NANS Blocks Highway
Education Minister Tunji Alausa is meeting with vice-chancellors today over alleged mismanagement of Nigeria’s student loan scheme, amid mounting pressure from students and anti-corruption agencies.
The move follows a protest by NANS, which blocked the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, demanding transparency after ICPC revealed that only N28.8bn of the N100bn disbursed had reached students. The ministry plans to train bursars, launch a compliance tracker, and investigate institutions accused of fraudulent deductions. Meanwhile, NELFUND denies any missing funds and urges reforms to improve loan delivery.
