23 Killed in Kano Road Accident

At least 23 people have died in a fatal road crash involving a DAF model trailer along the Kano-Maiduguri road, near the Muhammadu Buhari Interchange Flyover in Kano. Confirming the incident, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Kano Sector Commander, Umar Matazu, stated that the accident involved 71 passengers, with 23 fatalities and 48 others injured. According to Matazu, the crash, which occurred on Thursday night, was caused by overspeeding, leading to loss of control. Rescue teams from the FRSC and Nigeria Police Force swiftly responded to the scene, evacuating the injured victims to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital for urgent medical attention. In response, Matazu ordered a thorough investigation into the incident and extended condolences to the families of the deceased while wishing the injured a speedy recovery. He also cautioned drivers against overloading trailers with goods, animals, and passengers, warning that such practices increase the risk of fatal accidents. The accident site has since been cleared, and normal traffic flow has been restored. The FRSC reiterated its commitment to road safety and urged motorists to strictly adhere to traffic regulations to prevent further tragedies.
