The 2026 rainy period was at its peak on September 22, causing serious flooding in parts of Anambra State.

The Old Enugu/Onitsha Road at the Ogidi axis was rendered impassable following a heavy downpour that flooded the road.

Motorists and other road users were forced to divert to alternative routes amid untold hardship caused by the flooding.

Some road users and residents of the axis who spoke with journalists expressed regret over the yearly recurrence of flooding in the area.

They said that whenever it is rainy season, both pedestrians and motorists find it difficult to use the axis.

Mr. Okey Ozoh, a shuttle driver plying the Onitsha-Agulu route, decried the flood, describing it as a major obstacle that prolongs their journey and forces them to spend more fuel while searching for alternative routes.

Miss Juliet Onyekaso, a resident of the area, said that every rainy season the route becomes impassable due to waterlogging, which affects their movement and forces them to look for better routes.

She observed that it may be difficult to avoid such occurrences due to the nature of the environment, and advised road users to always seek alternatives whenever it rains.

She called on government to look into the situation to bring lasting solution to the perennial flooding at the axis.
