2023: My presence in politics is the will of God — Ekweremadu

Former Deputy Senate President, Chief Ike Ekweremadu says his presence in politics is to do the will of God as he turns 60.

Ekweremadu disclosed this on Thursday during his 60th birthday thanksgiving service at the Church of Good Shepherd, Anglican Communion, Enugu.

The senator representing Enugu West Senatorial District, said that he would submit his gubernatorial aspiration to the will of God.

Ekweremadu, who is a governorship aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said that he was in the race to create a new Enugu State.

He said that he was committed to revamping the infrastructural deficit in the state, provide potable water and security and create employment for the youths.

“Even in this endeavour, I will submit myself to the will of God,” he said.

Ekweremadu said that he had a covenant with God which he had always kept.

“I have a covenant with God to lift me up in order to transform the society. I have passed through tribulations and they did not consume me.

“I have never worshipped any other God and will never do. I stand in the alter of God to repeat it. The only God I know is the one in heaven and He has never disappointed me,” he said.

The lawmaker advised politicians to keep a good and neat relationship with one another in spite of their divergent interests.

“Let me advise young politicians to keep their politics clean and keep their windows open for reconciliation in order to work together,” he said.

On his 60th birthday, Ekweremadu said: “ I am here in good health to thank God for keeping me alive. At 60, I am very strong and have no health issues,” he said.

The lawmaker thanked his political associates for celebrating with him.

“I thank President Muhammadu Buhari and former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubarka who sent me an amazing birthday greetings,” Ekweremadu said.

In a thanksgiving sermon, the Archbishop of Enugu Ecclesiastical Province, Anglican Communion, Dr. Emmanuel Chukwuma described Ekweremadu as the “best senator” ever from the state.

Chukwuma said that God had protected the senator from series of political intrigues and attacks.

“Within this 60 years, you have suffered failed assassination attempts, conspiracy and even survived armed robbery.

“You may not have survived all these if not for the fear of God in you and your attitude of giving to the less privileged.

“Whatever may come in future is in God’s hands. Continue to fear and appreciate God. May your future aspirations be fulfilled,” Chukwuma said. (NAN)
