2023: Lawmaker urges journalists to organize debates for politicians

Member representing Onitsha North 2 constituency at the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Edward Obiefuna Ibuzor has charged journalists to conduct debate for politicians seeking election to represent key political offices in the state and country.

The lawmaker made the request in Onitsha during his campaign flag-off held at Godwin Achebe stadium, fegge Onitsha, Onitsha South LGA of Anambra State.

He stated that it is imperative for journalists to  invite all  political aspirants gunning for political positions and engage them one on one in debate as that would help the people know who has substance to offer in their desired positions.

Addressing newsmen during his campaign rally Hon. Ibuzor who is contesting for Federal House of Representatives for Onitsha North and South Constituency on the platform of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), challenged the press, noting that debates is essential part of electing credible leaders.

“We are omitting so many things. What I don’t understand is we are going for election that concerns me,  you, everybody, millions of people yet, you people don’t call the aspirants for a debate and one on one interaction.

“You are the eyes and mouth of the people; even if it is once, it speaks volume because what you write, or announce millions of people hear it. Its a challenge, lets start it in Onitsha North. Anambra State is the light of the Nation.”

Hon. Ibuzor who spoke on his political ambition vowed to move motions for the functioning of Onitsha Sea Port in his first one month in the green Chamber if he is elected.

His words: “My brother, the preaching is for you, me and everybody here. I just said, it is a Flagg off of the campaign of me being nominated by APGA, the real party, to represent them at the green Chamber. 

“The voting is for the masses, I was singled out unanimously under APGA party to represent them and I have to preach it; the preaching is clear.

“Honestly, it’s not a matter of beging for votes, all I am saying is that, the whole people who are coming out to represent had  being holding position, and if you sent somebody to represent you, the person must come back and tell you what she or he achieved.”

He revealed that through his constituency town hall meeting that someone wrote a letter concerning the  construction of Akpaka  Road,  which he said he took the letter to Governor Soludo who he said had recently flagged off the road for construction .

” I wonder why Onitsha Sea Port have not started operating while so many people are representing both in the Senate and House of Representatives. The beauty of effective representation is delivering and knowing the minds of people you represent” Hon. Ibuzor declared !
