2 docked for alleged robbery with cutlass

Two men, Sodiq Ahmed, 27 and Victor Teminu, 26, charged with robbery at cut-lass point, were on Tuesday arraigned in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.

Ahmed and Teminu, both residents of Ajegunle, Lagos State, accused of mobile phone robbery and cash worth N80,000, appeared before the presiding magistrate, Mrs O.A Dirisu, on a three-count charge of conspiracy, belonging to an unlawful society and robbery.

The defendants however, denied committing the offences and were admitted to a bail of N200,000 each with two sureties each in like sum.

Dirisu said that the sureties should be gainfully employed and show evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

The Prosecution Counsel, Insp. Mojirade Edeme, told the court that the defendants, and others still at large, committed the offences on Aug. 28, at Lekki, Lagos State.

Edeme said that the defendants, who belonged to an unlawful society known as “Eiye” Confraternity, robbed Mr Rafiu Salaudeen of his valuables.

“The complainant boarded a bus, and while on transit, the defendants brought out cutlasses and demanded for his phone and cash.

“They forcefully collected his phone valued at N68,000 and cash of N12,000, making it a total of N80,000.

“After the robbery, they jumped out of the vehicle and took to their heels.

The complainant raised alarm and the defendants were apprehended, while their accomplices escaped,” she said.

The alleged offences, according to the prosecutor, violate sections 42, 297 and 299 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that section 297 stipulates 21 years’ imprisonment for armed robbery.

The magistrate adjourned the case until Oct. 5, for further mention. (NAN)
